This session was such a blast! You see Miss C’s Mom was planning her 3rd birthday, and was having some trouble deciding on a theme for the birthday party invitations. Enter an indecisive photographer with a penchant for photographing children; eclectic birthday session fun! Miss C is such a cutie! She was full of energy, smiles and towards the end of the session, sugar. She was so much fun to photograph, she was serious one minute, and goofing it up the next. I love photographing kids, they’re totally confident in front of the camera. They show you themselves, and my favorite images are one’s that capture the essence of the person being photographed. We started Miss C’s session with our Tea Party set-up, and Wow did she have fun playing in the jewelry box! (She hid some loot in the tea pot) She just went about playing with the set up and checking out our surroundings, and she was totally cool. She didn’t care if I was in her face, trying to get her to smile, or the multiple times Mom had to fix her adorable little crown. She was beyond easy to photograph, and the camera certainly loved her! I love how the images turned out! Big Thank You to Miss C and her awesome Mom! My two favorite little subjects to photograph are my son and my niece. Since I’m the client, when I photograph them, I can do pretty much whatever I want. I don’t have to get them to smile, I don’t have to get them to look at the camera, I can edit to my heart’s content, and I can ask them to do crazy stuff. I think having personal projects, as an artist, is really important to maintaining joy in your work. If I couldn’t photograph those two crazy kids, I don’t know if I’d really enjoy my camera and my art so much. They’re both my little muses, and bring out the creativity in me. So, this past weekend, I decided to go pick up my niece, and have some photo fun with her. I hadn’t photographed her in awhile, and I just wanted to hang out and get some more lifestyle images. We played in the field that my son and I play in. We ran around, we picked flowers, we explored all over. As I was photographing our play date, I saw this: Playing in the field SOOC | OKC Children’s Photographer This is a totally boring shot SOOC (straight out of camera), but I knew it could be gorgeous. I had the finished image in my mind. So after I took her home, I edited the other images, which I’ll share in another post. I waited until the following day to start editing this photograph. Mostly because I knew it would be time consuming (according to my husband it took 2 hours), but also because I wanted to give it my undivided attention. I love editing, like seriously love it. I cannot express how much I enjoy watching an image come to life. Once I start editing a session, I can’t stop, so I knew if I got the other images done first, I could really just enjoy creating this one. So, here’s what my mind dreamed up: Playing in the field FINISHED | OKC Children’s Photographer I know this isn’t everyone’s cup of tea, but I love it beyond words. To me, it looks like pure joy, and that’s exactly what it was. She was playing, throwing flowers in the air, without a care in the world. That’s what children are, have, and possess; pure joy.
Boys Spring Set by sara-masters-blacksten on Polyvore Photographing little boys is so much fun.  Most little boys are constantly on the go, and their wardrobe should reflect that. Restrictive clothing is never any fun to wear, and as a Mom of a little boy, I can tell you; if they can’t run and play, they can’t be themselves, and it will show in the images. This outfit is a great example of being both timeless and perfect for an active little boy. Don’t overlook the shoes when selecting clothing for a little boy’s portrait session. They need to be comfortable and stylish. Shoes can truly make or break a gorgeous image. Hats are always a fun accessory for a photography session. They give kids something to play with; and can take a plain outfit into adorable status. Accessories like hats are also great because you can use them or lose them; not all kiddos like wearing hats, so we can grab a few quick images with the hat, then get rid of it. This outfit would be perfect for lots of little boys’ portrait sessions themes; fishing by the pond, walking in the park, and Easter egg hunting to name a few.  Since it’s quite neutral, it would also be a perfect complement to a family photography session, or a sibling session.
